Job Description

Shape the chemistry behind everyday products

Step onto the production floor in Appleton, WI, where defoamers keep paints smooth, coating lubricants support paper manufacturing, floor coatings gain durability, crosslinkers strengthen paper, and agricultural additives help pesticides and fertilizers perform. As an Apprentice Chemical Process Technician, you’ll learn how these specialty additives come to life—and how safe, precise operations make it possible.

Your training journey

You will begin the virtual Chemical Plant Operations academic online program at Augusta Technical College while gaining hands-on experience at our Appleton manufacturing site. Industry mentors will guide you through real production scenarios as you grow your skills. BASF covers the full cost of your education—tuition, books, and fees—so you can focus on learning and contributing.

A day in the apprenticeship

On a typical shift, you’ll pair classroom concepts with practice on the plant floor:

  • Make daily, weekly, and monthly safety walkthroughs and housekeeping inspections part of your routine.
  • Take ownership of a segment of the site safety program and help drive concrete safety improvements.
  • Support Safe Work Permitting to protect everyone working in production areas.
  • Keep production spaces organized and clean to ensure efficient, safe operations.
  • Use computer-based systems to create production instructions, record production data, and manage inbound and outbound materials.
  • Assist Quality Control by running in-process product tests.
  • Handle the receipt and shipment of bulk raw materials and finished goods, including loading and unloading.
  • Package finished products into drums and totes.
  • Reconcile batches by verifying raw materials consumed for each finished lot.
  • Operate forklifts to stage materials and remove finished goods from the production area.

What you bring

  • Mechanical troubleshooting ability.
  • Capability to meet the physical requirements of the role.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
