Job Description

Walkers’ Bar & Market is a new central Dallas neighborhood restaurant, sandwich shop, and market built around the personalities and values of its namesake, and experienced through Intentional Hospitality. The restaurant is upbeat, stylish, and sophisticated with elevated European-American cuisine, classic cocktails, and dynamic wine program focused on classic regions and grape varieties while embracing the reality that we’re living in a uniquely exciting time to drink wine. Adjacent to the restaurant is a bustling sandwich counter, chic wine shop, and quaint upscale market.

Every detail of how we operate is intentional and constantly refined. Members of the Kitchen team should be adaptable with the understanding that the menu will change seasonally. Intentional Hospitality extends beyond the dining room and applies to our kitchen operations as well. Everything we do is intentional, from the way that we organize our stations to the way that we plate our food.

We cook food that’s honest, direct, and full of flavor. Nothing is overworked or there to simply impress. Every ingredient serves a purpose, and every plate should feel grounded, thoughtful, and alive. We operate with urgency, but not chaos. Clean, organized, and deliberate – because that’s how you respect the craft and the people around you. We don’t chase trends or hide behind technique. We focus on execution, consistency, and flavor above everything else.

As a Prep Cook, you are the quiet force that makes a dinner feel effortless. While guests enjoy the atmosphere, your work happens behind the scenes, organizing every ingredient so the cooking and service flow smoothly. You set the stage for every dish to come out on time and beautifully prepared. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills and the ability to be a team collaborator. Responsibilities will also include working as a line cook in during the lunch shift. We are looking for someone who can multitask; slanging sandwiches while completing their prep list. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Execute daily prep lists accurately and efficiently
  • Work the hot and cold stations during AM service
  • Follow recipes, specs, and labeling standards as listed in the Kitchen Manual
  • Clearly communicate prep levels and shortages  
  • Maintain a clean and organized station
  • Display a working knowledge of all ingredients and preparation used on the menu
  • Consistently ensure that station mise en place is prepped, seasoned, and stocked throughout service and overall station remains clean and organized
  • Demonstrate and eagerness to refine techniques and a desire to continually learn and grow
  • Responsible for all aspects of kitchen operations, including preparation, cooking, and portioning of food
  • Maintains and properly uses all kitchen equipment including fryers, blenders, food processors, mixers, and rotisserie
  • Consistently ensure that prep duties are excellently prepped, seasoned and cooked to the standards taught by culinary leaders by the designated time of completion
  • Follows standard operating procedures of all recipes, techniques, and builds sheets of assigned dishes as taught by culinary leaders
  • Responsible for correct product storage of all mise en place, including labeling and dating procedures  

Requirements:  

  • Minimum 1 year experience in a fine-dining restaurant, or elevated restaurant environment
  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time
  • Follow systems without shortcuts
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently without compromising quality
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness standards  

Physical Demands:  

  • Requires moderate physical effort. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing, lifting weights up to 50 pounds.  

Working Conditions:  

  • The working environment includes exposure to noise, heat, temperature fluctuations, kitchen equipment, odors, and moisture. Additional hours may be required based on workload and staffing needs  

Uniform Requirements:  

  • Clean, non-slip shoes
  • Black pants
