Payroll Specialist

Responsibilities:

Payroll

- Process semi-monthly and off-cycle payroll ensuring accurate pay calculations, deductions, and tax withholdings

- Review and audit timesheets prior to payroll processing

- Process wage garnishments, levies, and other court-ordered deductions in compliance with applicable regulations

- Maintain and update employee payroll records including new hires, status changes, leaves of absence, and terminations

- Prepare final paychecks and termination payments

- Resolve payroll discrepancies including benefit deductions, tax withholding issues, and employee inquiries

- Maintain payroll documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and payroll regulations

- Generate recurring payroll reports for leadership and support payroll-related audits

Accounts Payable

- Process vendor invoices and maintain vendor records

- Review employee expense reports and corporate credit card reconciliations

- Prepare vendor payments and assist with check processing

- Support month-end accounting activities and other finance department initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:

- 5+ years of payroll experience, 1+ year of AP experience

- Experience processing payroll in a law firm or professional services environment

- Strong understanding of CA state and federal payroll laws, garnishments, tax withholdings, and payroll compliance

- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
